Why TECTUS is different
Traditional butt hinges — still the default across most of the South African market — sit exposed on the door frame, interrupting clean lines and dating a design the moment it's installed. TECTUS flips that entirely: the entire mechanism is recessed into the door leaf and frame, so when the door is closed, there's no visible hinge at all. Just an unbroken reveal line from frame to leaf.
What sets TECTUS apart from other concealed hinge systems is the engineering behind that invisibility:
- True 3-way adjustment – once installed, every TECTUS hinge can be fine-tuned on all three axes (side, height and compression), so doors can be perfectly aligned after hanging, and re-aligned years later as a home settles.
- 180° opening – doors swing fully flat against the adjacent wall, useful in tight hallways, walk-in robes and anywhere floor space is at a premium.
- Load-rated engineering – each model is rated for a specific door weight, so oversized timber doors are properly supported rather than sagging on hinges never designed for them.
- Built for solid, heavy doors – the range is designed around the weight and dimensions of real timber doors, not lightweight cavity or hollow-core units, making it the go-to spec for solid wood entry and internal doors.
It's this combination — invisible, adjustable, and properly load-rated — that's made TECTUS the standard in European architectural hardware, and increasingly the request we're getting from architects and high-end joiners locally.
